I really enjoy Simon Pegg movies. I obviously loved Shaun of the Dead because zombies and Simon Pegg, Paul was also pretty quality, Mission Impossible (duh), A Fantastic Fear of Everything (second fav), and The World's End was pretty decent. It was so disappointing because I heard so many great things about Hot Fuzz, but it was so underwhelming.
The action-y scenes were pretty action-y and even funny. It was pretty over the top and ridiculous and, I guess it was self-aware of the ridiculousness. Simon Pegg plays the actual serious get-shit-done cop and Nick Frost plays the goofy, son of the head of policeman dude, and the way they play off of each other is super funny and works really well. Really the only thing that wasn't alright about this movie was the pacing. If the decision was made to just cut out some of the "character establishing" scenes (that actually don't really add anything to the movie), it would be a shorter movie, and it would be a lot more bearable to get through in one sitting.
If they had just cut out some of the unnecessary stuff, I would have really liked this movie, because it had a lot of good things going for it. There are some great funnies throughout the movie, and the ending (while I thought it was predictable) was pretty original. Also, you can really never go wrong with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost; anything they do is going to be relatively funny, or like, shut off your brain for a bit funny.
